How to load custom content in your game 𓂃۶ৎ
If you’ve ever downloaded CC but couldn’t find it in-game, don’t worry—every simmer goes through that moment. The real trick is knowing how to enable Custom Content before you start adding anything to your Mods folder. Once that’s sorted, everything else becomes super simple.
This guide will walk you through:
ㅤꨄ︎How to turn on CC & mods in your gameꨄ︎ How to set up your folder correctly
ㅤꨄ︎ Helpful tools every simmer should have
ㅤꨄ︎How to actually download and load CC at the end
Let’s get into it.
1. Enable Custom Content in Your Game
Before downloading even one piece of CC, make sure your game is set up to allow it.
Open Your Sims 4 Settings
Go to: The Sims 4 → Options Menu → Game Options → Other
Turn on:
⋅★ Enable Custom Content and Mods
⋅★Script Mods Allowed
Click Apply Changes, then restart your game.
You only need to do this once—unless EA resets your settings after a big update.
2. Set Up Your Mods & Tray Folders Properly
Your CC needs to live in the correct folders for the game to read it.
Mods Folder (For gameplay CC & mods)
Documents → Electronic Arts → The Sims 4 → Mods
This is where:
⋅★ts4script files…all get placed.
Tray Folder (For lots, rooms & households)
Documents → Electronic Arts → The Sims 4 → Tray
This is where your:
⋅★blueprint
⋅★bpi…files go. Anything that shows up in your Library goes into Tray—not Mods.
3. Tools Every Simmer Should Install (Extremely Helpful)
These make managing CC a thousand times easier and help catch problems early.
💠 Sims 4 Mods Manager
Helps you:
⋅★ Organize your Mods folder
⋅★Easily disable CC during troubleshooting
Great for simmers with large CC collections.
💠 Better Exceptions (TwistedMexi)
A must-have for preventing headaches during gameplay.
It:
⋅★Gives clear, readable error reports
⋅★ Helps you find the exact file causing issues
Super useful after big EA patches when mods tend to break.
💠 Sims 4 Tray Importer
Perfect if you install lots or households.
It lets you:
⋅★See what CC a build uses
⋅★Replace missing CC
⋅★ Delete CC from your game using previews
⋅★ Find the exact folder location of any item
Every builder and CAS simmer benefits from this tool.
4. Keeping Your Mods Folder Clean (Important!)
A messy Mods folder = lag, glitches, or CC not showing up.
Tips:
⋅★Organize CC by creator or category
⋅★Delete duplicates
⋅★Remove outdated versions when creators update items
⋅★Avoid too many high-poly alpha items on low-end PCs
The cleaner your Mods folder, the smoother your game!!
5. How to Download and Load Custom Content
Once everything above is done, you’re finally ready to download CC.
Step 1: Download the CC file
It will usually come as:
⋅★.zip
⋅★ .rar
⋅★Or directly as a .package file
Step 2: Extract the file (if zipped)
Right-click → Extract Here / Extract to Folder
⋅★.package
⋅★ .ts4script
⋅★Or Tray files
Step 3: Move the files
⋅★Mods folder → .package + .ts4script
⋅★Tray folder→ .trayitem, .blueprint, .bpi
Step 4: Restart your game
After restarting, a popup will show everything the game detected.
In CAS or Build/Buy, filter by **Custom Content** to find your items.
* Make sure it isn’t still zipped
* Check if mods were disabled after a game update
* Confirm you didn’t accidentally mix Tray and Mods files
